Look out in winter for smooth twigs with black velvety buds. The leaves are arranged in pairs (see detail photo) and it has purplish flowers before the leaves appear.<\/p>\n<p>The ash has bunches of seeds in autumn rather than the winged seeds of the sycamore (see detail photo).
