Your Park

The Park rests in Southampton beside the River Itchen’s tidal saltwater Estuary as well as beside the old freshwater Navigation Canal. There are three Car Parks off Manor Farm Road and one large Car Park off Woodmill Lane where both sides of the Park meet.

Facilities

The saltwater estuary has two well-appointed children’s play areas, and a cycle training layout complete with road signs, junctions and a zebra crossing. There is a miniature railway suitable for all ages with some carriages suitable to take 2 wheelchairs or a disability scooter.

Activities include a skate park, multi-use games area (MUGA), cricket and football pitches and a tennis court. The majority of paths are surfaced with tarmac and are usually well- maintained. A Tree trail has been started: see www.friendsofriversidepark.org.uk

The area across Woodmill Lane is less manicured and the river more winding. The land on the opposite bank is not cultivated and kingfishers are often seen.
Indeed, there is a rich variety of wildlife with ducks and swans to feed (not cakes or crisps please – cooked rice, peas or sweet corn, grain and uncooked oats are much better)

Both areas have magnificent views that change with the seasons, a rich variety of wildlife including swans and ducks to feed. The most common gulls here are the smaller squabbling Black Headed Gulls (only black headed when mature). There is an increasing population of black swans. Very popular for family days out, safe for joggers, walkers, nature study and fishing. Occasional other visiting birds are Little Egrets and Kingfishers.

Please respect the park, its users and its wildlife and dispose of your litter and dog faeces responsibly in the bins provided.
